Wake Forest awarded five honorary degrees during its commencement ceremony May 19. The morning ceremony featured a speech by award-winning journalist Jill Abramson, former executive editor of The New York Times. After her address to approximately 1,900 graduates, Abramson was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Melissa Rogers, special assistant to the President and executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, delivered the Baccalaureate Address in Wait Chapel on May 18. Rogers, the former director of the Center for Religion and Public Affairs at Wake Forest School of Divinity, received an honorary Doctor of Divinity.

The Honorable Mr. Justice John L. Murray presided over the Supreme Court of Ireland as chief justice from 2004-2011 and served as the country’s Attorney General on two separate occasions. A life-long educator and current professor at the University of Limerick in Ireland, Murray was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws. He was the speaker for the School of Law hooding ceremony May 18.

Dr. Thomas J. Nasca, CEO of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and ACGME International, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science. Nasca, a nephrology specialist and professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College and was the speaker for the School of Medicine hooding ceremony May 18.

Andrew Robertson (P ’13), president and CEO of BBDO Worldwide Inc., which has become the world’s most awarded global advertising agency network under his leadership, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Robertson serves on the School of Business Board of Visitors and was the speaker for the School’s hooding ceremony May 18.
